"Vintage CP" Design Days - Roree Rumph

I was really excited about the "Vintage" assignment this month.  For me (like I am sure for many of you), my older collections get filed away when the new ones come out and sadly, they are usually forgotten about.  So any excuse to use some of older stash is always good.  ;)  But since my desire for "New" tends to be pretty strong, I decided to mix a little bit of old with a little bit of new.  The best of both worlds! 

For this card, I mixed Camden and Sweet Shoppe.  I just love when a manufacturer can come up with collections that are different enough to stand apart but can still work well together.  These lines really blended together perfectly.

Design Days - Lisa Kisch

I was happy when our vintage theme was chosen, giving me a great excuse to go through all my Collage Press papers. When I dug through my stash, I found supplies from "Seed", "Margot" and "Grayson", among others,  and it reminded me why I have always been drawn to Collage Press-- beautiful, contemporary designs that set off any photo perfectly. I have always loved the journaling cards, and in this case I used them not only as a background for my typed journaling, but also as a border down the side of the layout, and punched as a circle detail here and there. All those lines and grids subtly support the boardwalk theme. (Click for a larger view.)

If you are a journaling junky like I am, here is what I wrote:

"The three kilometre Toronto Boardwalk ends just a few blocks from our house. Slat after slat of wood following the water’s edge-- sand on one side, trees and grass on the other. I often walk here with the stroller, bumpety-bumping all the way, passing joggers, dog walkers and couples strolling along hand in hand. When the weather is good I try to take a walk by the lake every day, either walking down Queen St. to do errands, then walking back along the shore, or vice versa. My family sometimes wonders why we live down here, so far (it seems) from where I grew up. From the time we discovered this neighbourhood, though, there was no question. It was the only place in the city either of us wanted to live. It’s like living in a little seaside resort town, but just 30 minutes from the heart of downtown by streetcar. We walk to everything -- the grocery store, the library, the school, among others. Just walking to the corner and catching a glimpse of the water on a brutally cold winter’s day can cheer me up. The lake shimmers blue grey, and the light reflects on the surface like sequins on a cocktail dress.  Late spring and summer brings sunbathers, tourists, and the jazz fest-- but at our end of the neighbourhood it’s always quieter. The breeze coming off the water keeps us cool even in the dog days of the season. Autumn is a whirl of colourful leaves above and underfoot.  It’s just a wonderful place to live.

And so we’ve decided to renovate our hundred year old semi, even though our lot is just 19ft X 100ft, and we will never have a parking spot. We could move 20 minutes away-- even less-- and have a much bigger house, a parking spot or two, and a bigger piece of land. But then we’d have to drive to get to the places we love, instead of a gentle stroll, and when asked where we live we could no longer be able to describe it as where the boardwalk ends."

"Going Vintage" CP Design Days - Jennifer Beason

Hello everyone!  When I heard we were "going vintage" for this month's assignment I knew exactly what I wanted to do.  You see,  "way back when" when I studied fashion illustration in collage, one of my favorite classes was fashion history.  I decided to take the assignment literally and make an altered piece with a 20's feel.  Although the majority of this project uses "vintage" Collage Press collections, I did use a little of the newer CP lines as well.

 

The base of my hat is made out of a plastic cup flipped upside down.  But anything you can find that has a good dome shape would work fine. Raw chipboard was used to make the brim of the hat. Since it's flexible, you can bend it to the desired shape you like.

I covered the plastic cup with strips of brown paper first, because I wasn't sure how the patterned paper would adhere, but it's not a necessary step.

After the top section of the hat and brim were covered with patterned paper, I used a strip of patterned to create a ribbon to go around the sides.  In the close up above, you can see the stitched details I added, along with the border punched details.

A couple leafy vines from the Vines patterned paper were mounted to raw chipboard, stitched and then cut out, before adhering them to the front of the hat.  Chipboard elements, a felt flower, feathers and brown netting were all added to finish off this project.

"Vintage" CP Design Days - Tonya Dirk

Isn't the saying something like "everything old is new again"??? Well, that is how I felt! I gladly accepted the challenge of using some "vintage" Collage Press. I just happened to have the Camden line sitting in my collection...untouched...ack! Lucky me, I am pretty sure that I could not have found any other papers that would have been more perfect for these photos of my oldest son.

These photos are not even a year old and they seem vintage too me too! They were taken last summer when he was 11. He just turned 12 a week ago and he already looks SO MUCH older! Hormones are starting to kick in and well, we all know what that means. Physically and emotionally it's all starting! LOL! 

Lucky for us, he is such a good kid and on a daily basis he makes up proud to be his parents.

"Vintage" CP Design Days - Lynn Ghahary

Hey everyone!  It's Lynn here and I'm excited to share with you my "vintage" layout using the amazing Jackson Lodge collection.  Having two boys I am always drawn to patterned papers that use a more masculine color scheme and I absolutely adore the fresh color combination of pale blue, spring green, and bright orange in this collection.  Paired with some neutral shades of brown and you've got pure perfection in my eyes. 

For this layout I decided to switch things up a bit and scrap not only 8.5 x 11 (I normally do 12 x 12 layouts) but also play with my page orientation and use a landscape design.  I snapped this photo of my hubby and our oldest son Darian last month and, well, it goes without saying that the colors of their shirts are just perfect for these patterned papers. 

And here's a close up of my title.  I used one of the die cuts popped up with dimensional adhesive as my title block and layered on some fun chipboard letters in a coordinating color.

I absolutely love how well all the different Collage Press lines can mix together.  I'm so drawn to pink and green so it's no surprise that I decided to use the Citrus Collection, the Seeds Collection and the Sweet Shoppe Collection for my layout.  My all time favorite piece of paper is Yum from the Sweet Shoppe collection.  I used the back of it for my graph paper in the background which I ended up journaling on.  And I did some fussy cutting to pull out some flourish/flower images.

I love these photos of my girls in their frilly dresses and had a lot of fun making a frilly layout to go with it.  I hope you have been inspired!

 

"Vintage" CP Design Days - Jill Sprott

This month's "vintage" theme has me thinking: is it crazy to feel nostalgic for a time that hasn't quite yet passed? 

When I look ahead to the future, I imagine myself looking back someday, remembering, or trying to remember "these days," the time we have with our families, while we are young and beautiful and full of promise.  Perhaps this is yet another reason why we scrapbook, to hold on a little tighter to that which is slipping away; to look back at the past and ahead to the future, while trying to live fully in the here and now.

One of the things that Collage Press does right with EVERY SINGLE LINE is to create timeless papers, like the incredible ledger and grid papers from lines such as Grayson Hall, Camden, Jackson Lodge, and more recently, Sweet Shoppe and Knave of Hearts.  I combined a bunch of ledger and grid papers on this layout, and used strips from some of them to create teeny tiny paper blossoms. This layout also uses one of my favorite products from CP's past: Office Policy stamps.  The wonderful thing about stamps is that even when you've used up all of the papers from a line, the stamps still endure.  

While we're on the subject of all that endures, let's give a shout out not only to the design of CP's papers, but also to their durability -- these papers stand up to all kinds of treatments, including misting, painting, folding, and kissing.  Scratch that last one. Overshare.

 Hi everyone, for my vintage project - I managed to find this gorgeous pattern paper from the Grayson Hall collection; don't you just love the soft blue color and the elegant grey script. I mixed this up with some goodies from the Knave of Hearts collection – the die cuts sheet and elements, and labels.  

 

Also finally giving these swirl flowers a try, been seeing them everywhere and just couldn't resist (and just a little hint - if you are planning to make these, make sure you glue down all parts of the flowers otherwise the swirls will come out; when I first created mine, they were much smaller and then later in the day - they just grew).

"Vintage" CP Design Days - Cheryl Kelly-Van Domelen

I love the older (aka "vintage" lines) from Collage Press - they are what got me to fall in love with the company!!!  From the moment I saw my first Collage Press paper from the Margot collection at my LSS, I thought that the combinations of linear elements such as the grids and ledgers along with the shabby chic flourishes and distressing were pure genius!   Ever since then, it was my dream to be on this fabulous design team, and I'm so proud that my dream has come true!  

In this layout of my daughter playing dress-up, I used the paper from the Margot collection and a Seeds journaling card.  I threw in a collection of my favorite things....Prima flowers, Martha Stewart glitter, Tim Holtz grungeboard, Kaisercraft rhinestones, stamped images, lace and sequins, an overlay, plus a real stamp and playing card to complete the collage.
